How to prepare your website for 2016

Categories Articles, Inspirations

A new year is just around the corner, so now is a great time to take a good look at the website and figure out if there is anything you can do to prepare your site for the new year. In this article we look at some of the different things you can do in order to prepare.

1. Change the photos

It is a good idea to update your photos at least quarterly, if there is no change in the images on your site, then visitors are much more like to think that your site is dead. A boring and drab website doesn’t draw any attention so it can be hard to attract new followers or customers.

2. Update your about us page

You would be surprised how many people forget to update their about us pages. If your company has a turnover of staff, then you should update your about us page, and honestly this is something you should do as soon as you add a new member to the team. We prefer doing business with someone who we know, or at least feel like we know, and a picture of your team goes a long way to provide this security.

3. Change the dates

This might seem obvious, but your would be surprised how often this is forgotten. Changing the dates means changing the copyright year at the bottom of the site. As well as making changes to all the different about us pages such as information about years in the industry.

If the copyright page hasn’t been updated since 2009, then many see this as a red flag that they website is either outdated or simply unreliable.

4. Get rid of FLASH!

If you still have Flash content on your site, then now is a good time to get rid of it. Flash used to be the most used way to add interactive content to your website, however in recent years it las been made obsolete by the introduction of HTML5. HTML5 introduced support for embedded video and audio, as well as other important elements that pretty much replaced the need for Flash elements on a page.

5. Look at future trends

It is a good idea to look at future trends in the web design industry, read our article on Future trends in web design: Predictions for 2015, it can also bee a good idea to look at what other competitors are doing, you would be surprised how many good suggestions you can get that way.
