How to create great infographics quickly with – review

Sometimes you have a truly brilliant idea for the perfect presentation or infographic, however the idea never leaves the drawing board since you don’t have the skills or experience to create a professional looking result. Let us be honest, not everyone has the money to hire an expensive designer to take care of this for us. While there are probably 10’s if not 100’s of other apps out there that offer to do the same task, most of them are either too difficult to use, too expensive or if they are cheap and easy to use then they often fail to deliver and give the flexibility you seek to fit your specific needs.  This is what a new web app called Visme is hoping to change.

What is Visme?

Visme is a browser based application created by a team who wanted to simplify the process of easily translating your thoughts and ideas into engaging content. So far the application has gained popularity among bloggers who are looking to create engaging presentations and infographics to bring boring text content to life. Furthermore, small business owners are using the app to better engage and market their products and services to their target audience.

The best thing about Visme is the fact that it is free to use, and it only takes a few seconds to register and start creating your first project. As mentioned, most features are free to users, however the company does have a premium package as well, this allows users access to more features such as downloading project for offline use, password protection, access to premium widgets and templates. Some additional features cost $5/month, or you can sign up for their premium package, Visme Complete which costs $14.25, see the graph below for the differences between the different offers.

One area of Visme that gives it an edge compared to other companies is the ability to publish a project and access it in various forms. It is easy to share your creations online, you can very easily embed your creations into a website or download it as image, PDF or as HTML which will preserve all interactivity and can be used offline. Furthermore it is possible to publish your project to your Slideshare account.

Visme has quickly become “The Swiss Knife of Visual Content’, simply because the possibilities of the uses are endless, while you can create stunning and engaging presentations, infographics, web banners and short animations, the possibilities are indeed only stopped by your imagination.

In short Visme is different because:

  • It does more than just create one type of content.  it’s the multi-tool of visual content.
  • Requires no coding or design experience
  • Intuitive and easy to use yet balanced with a range of features and flexibility to personalize content.
  • Gives you a great starting point to create presentations
  • Fully HTML5 based so content is both web and mobile friendly.
  • Download content to all popular formats:  Web URL, Image, PDF, and HTML5 formats.
  • Ability to make any object interactive and add motion

Below we will examine some of the different features that really set Visme apart from competitors. We will look at their animation engine, the different assests, fonts and ways to visiualize boring content.

Full animation engine

One thing that differentiates Visme from competitors is the fact that they utilize a powerful yet easy to use animation engine. It is very easy to animate objects, just click on an object and you can apply an animation preset from the “Animate this Object’ button. What is great is that compared to competitors who often have limits on what can be animated. Visme allows almost any object to be animated.

As you can see in the image above, you can also simply enter the objects list and examine the position of the objects compared to other objects, then you can simply adjust the timeline to your liking, making the objects move in exactly the way you want.

Tons of assets

Visme comes with access to millions of different assets built into the application. Whether you are looking for text widgets and animated text, or searchable images. Visme has you covered. All you need to do is drag and drop the wanted asset to your project. If you are looking to add icons, you can manage these so they match the colors of your project.

Visualization of contents

There is nothing worse than sitting through hours of boring PowerPoint presentations filled with numbers and horrible Excel created graphs. Thankfully, one of the key strengths of Visme is the ability to make data more visually appealing through a series of Infograph and Chart Widget tool.

The infographic widget allows you to quickly transform boring data and numbers into dynamic, easier to understand visuals. With the use of the different widgets, you can easily personalize the data and design to the value you want to represent.

Below you can see a preview of all the different infographic widgets:

Visme comes with more than 100 professional fonts that can be applied to your project, all you need to do is add your text to the project and then just click on the font dropdown to select from a variety of fonts in all popular styles.

As you can see in the image above, these fonts range from the contemporary, to handwritten, calligraphy or even typewriter, chances are if you can’t find the right font then it hasn’t been created yet. The app also allows you to apply different fonts to different parts of the text. In other words you can easily apply a certain font to a single word in order to emphasize it.

If you are tired of creating dull and boring presentations or presenting data as boring numbers, then perhaps it is time you give Visme a try. Whether you are creating a presentation or a beautiful infographic, I believe that everyone from the accountant to the entrepreneur promoting his new product can use this tool.
