There are some people who need constant audio companionship to keep us sane/motivated. Music is the soundtrack to our creativity. It makes work possible, helps define who we are and adds just enough fuel to our day to get us over most major hurdles. Each week, thanks to our friends at Inspired Mag, we aim to bring you a new musical suggestion, complete with a recommendation for it’s “intended use”. We hope to explore the full spectrum of musical tastes, so check back each week!

Music For Productivity: December 14th, 2010

Artist: Daft Punk
Album: Tron Legacy Soundtrack
Genre: Electronic/Soundtrack

If you’re like us then you spend a lot of time sitting in front of a computer. If you’re REALLY like us then you spend a lot of that time imagining that you’re in the movie Tron (and getting pretty close to an interesting Halloween costume). We also like to imagine our computers are Ms. Pac Man machines, but you don’t need to worry about that…

We’re going to be honest here. Real talk. When we first heard about Tron Legacy (the movie) we were pretty skeptical. We haven’t seen it so we’re still skeptical, but not about the soundtrack. When we found out Daft Punk was handling it and that they sample Jeff Bridges in the beginning, we went straight to the store and bought it. We drove around looking for the iTunes CD store for two hours before getting back home and realizing… well… nevermind.

If you haven’t heard of Daft Punk before, the Tron Legacy soundtrack is a great place to start. Daft Punk is comprised of two anonymous French musicians who’s faces are rarely seen since they generally perform in disguise. The music: it’s electronic, it’s epic, it’s interesting, and it’s worth putting on in the background while wearing your neon suit and working from home. Also worth noting is the fact that the soundtrack is NOT similar to Daft Punk’s usual work, so please proceed with caution. However, it is mostly instrumental and makes a great soundtrack for focusing!

Intended Use: Zoning out and focusing, wrapping your head around complex documentation, brainstorming. Think epic ColecoVision, 10 monitors, Japanese Robot Nurse (see below).
