As a Web Designer myself, I spend a lot of time trawling through tonnes and tonnes of websites looking for that spark of inspiration ensuring my design’s are fresh and adapt current web trends.
More often then not, the websites that stand out are the ones use bright, bold and effective color scheme’s and these are the ones I tend to remember. Here are 58 website’s I have picked that are all great in their own individual way. Most have used strong, bright colors, where as others have kept it minimal but in a way it still makes the outcome fantastic. Let me know your favorites…

Great looking sites. I couldn’t help but notice, however, they are predominantly weighted toward design and “Web” firms. I would be interested to see a list that contained great sites by “normal” companies, especially those in more “stodgy” industries like finance, insurance, manufacturing. Why? Because I think it’s easy for a design firm to put out a great site for themselves – that’s what they DO. But it seems harder to get most “real world” companies to adopt new styles due to internal politics, inertia, conservatism and what not. So having a site list non-design/non-Web companies with great sites gives ammunition to someone working in one of those industries (I work for a financial firm) to show that there are other companies in the same industry who “get it.” Because often what management is looking for is validation that their site won’t be the only one on the ‘net that “looks like that.” I hope that makes sense.

Great list, it shows some really nice companies. But the sharing sidebar that floats to the left overlays the content on my netbook screen, with no way to size my browser larger, it would be far more useful as a static element under the content of a post.

Those are the typical websites I would navigate away from immediately. They are all totally confusing. Give me a flat website any day with black text on a white background. You are wasting your time with your fancy flashing designs.

The general layout looks nice and the color scheme is pleasing. But, the contributed content (slides and other injected images) have been poorly executed. The composition, typefaces, typography, etc. are all over the map. It appears one person/group designed the site and another person/group developed the creative content. You can host a website for £2.49 a month with a free domain. The average is around £4.00 but ukwebhosting is relatively cheap.

Humm I liked it except the background, its just alittle bit too much.
