Choosing the Best E-commerce Platform for Your Fashion Store

Categories Articles

Starting an online e-commerce store is a great way to become your own boss if you are hoping to switch careers or make money as a stay-at- home parent. And it is also ideal for any working professionals who are in search of a way to make passive income from home. But choosing the right e-commerce platform for your particular niche is a key component to your online store’s success.

If you are planning on opening up an e-commerce fashion store, also known as an online boutique for fashion, continue reading for a few tips that will help you choose the best platform that will ensure your success.

Customization Options

Different e-commerce platforms will give you different levels of customization options. If you want to have a lot of control over the way your online fashion store looks, it could be a challenge to find an e-commerce platform that suits your needs. On the other hand, if you are willing to make compromises and stick with a template rather than a totally customized design of your own, you can choose an e-commerce platform with greater ease.

Payment Methods

Another thing you need to consider when looking for the ideal e-commerce platform for your online clothing store is the payment methods that are offered to customers. Do you want customers to be able to pay for their purchases with all major credit cards, or do you want them to be able to pay via PayPal instead? How many payment options do you want to provide? Look for e-commerce platforms that make it really easy to accept payments from your customers, and that make it easy for your customers to submit their payment information as well.

Product Presentation

Fashion can be particularly difficult to sell online because customers do not have the opportunity to actually feel the clothes in their hands or try them on to ensure they fit right before they make a purchase. To put customers’ minds at ease and encourage them to make a purchase, you need to stick with an e-commerce platform that boasts a high quality image gallery of your items. You should be able to let customers zoom into your photos to view details of your products, and customers should also be able to see multiple angles of every product.

Integrated SEO

Finally, if you can find an e-commerce platform that also goes a step further to provide you with SEO tools that you can use to reach more customers through searches, you can increase your traffic and conversions with greater ease. After all, the more people you can attract to your website, the more likely it is that your new online business will be a success.

As you can see, there are many things to consider when it comes to choosing the right e-commerce platform for your new fashion store. Once you have all of your details and expectations set into place, however, you should find it a lot easier to navigate through all of your options and find the perfect platform for your needs.

This is a good primer for someone who’s thinking of starting an online shop! :-) If I may add, as much as we all would love to have a fully customized store, there is always that underlying constraint of “limited budget.” For a simple yet beautiful and functional store under a limited budget, I think Shopify does wonderfully. They’ve recently launched an FB Messenger integration too where customers can shop without leaving their FB Messenger app. (I’m not sure though if it’s a free feature…) =D For more sophisticated features and budget, Magneto would be one of the go-to platforms.
